Unselected illustration for Paradiso Jazz 2017 competition
The first inspiration comes from the birth of jazz: I was inspired by synthetic and square shapes, the posters of the early 1900s as well as the clothes of the musicians reflect the fashion of those years in New Orleans, time and place where jazz culture has taken hold. I also wanted to place a strong emphasis on Africa, the mother country of the first musicians jazz, taking the traits of the three protagonists from the African masks.
But jazz is still current, so I used primary colors to give the illustration a pop and contemporary hint
Look at the black color and you will see the word "JAZZ"
